SCORE IN LAST MINUTE

GOOD VICTORY FOR DRUMMOND MATCHES IN CENTRAL DISTRICT The Central Star Club has definitely withdrawn its team from the senior Rugby football competition in the Central District and once again only three teams are taking part. On the call of time Drummond, secured a two-point victory over Lime-hills-Dipton at Drummond on Saturday. In the final stages of the game Limehills-Dipton was leading 9-6 when Drummond scored a try. Immediately after the conversion the whistle sounded for time. The final score was, Drummond 11, Limehills-Dipton 9. The game was mostly confined to the forwards and, although both sets of backs began several passing movements, there was little combination shown and the rushes invariably broke down. Drummond began with only 11 players, but after 10 minutes’ play the required number was made up. LimehillsDipton had a decided advantage in the first half and was unlucky not to score on several occasions. At halftime the scores were, Limehills-Dipton 3, Drummond 3.

The second half of the game . was more even and again Limehills-Dipton was unlucky when Blackmun kicked the ball over the line and was first to force. However, he had kicked too hard and had forced behind the deadball line.

A. Davis, for Limehills-Dipton, was easily the best back on the ground and made several good rims. H. Hammond, the full-back for the same team, prov-, ed very reliable, and Kean, Reid and Allen were always prominent in the forwards. There were several changes in the Drummond team during the game and the forwards, Langford and Southern, both had a turn in the backs. They were conspicuous in both departments and Chilton, Plunkett and Whyte also played well. The teams were:—

After a good run by the winger, Overton, who was tackled near the line, Allen secured and dived over for a good try. Shand missed with the kick. LimehillsDipton was placed on the defensive on resuming, but good work by the backs, in which Blackmun was prominent, returned play to half-way. Drummond had a slight advantage during the last few minutes of the half and at half-time the scores were, LimehillsDipton 3, Drummond 3. Drummond was given a chance with a penalty shortly after the start of the second half, but Johnson’s kick at goal missed. The Drummond backs began a promising passing rush in Limehills-Dipton’s 25, but a forward pass spoilt a good movement. Following even play at half-way for a time, Drummond forwards broke loose and headed by Plunkett and A. Chilton carried play to LimehillsDipton’s line, where A. Chilton picked up and dived over. Johnson missed with the kick. Limehills-Dipton again attacked and after a series of scrums on Drummond’s line a scrum infringement allowed Shand to goal from a handy position. A short time later Shand kicked another penalty goal from near halfway. Play centred near halfway for a time and the Drummond forwards rallied and commenced a strong attack. Limehills-Dipton was putting up a good defence when G. Batchelor picked up from a scramble on the line and scored.
