BIG ATTENDANCE AT INGLESIDE
Annual Presentation Of Trophies MUSICAL PROGRAMME PRESENTED There was a big attendance in Smith’s Hall on Saturday night, when the Southland Centre of the Piping ana Dancing Association of New Zealand held its annual ingleside. Mr T. M. Rankin, president, was chairman, and associated with him were Messrs John McGregor (Invercargill Caledonian Society), R. Tippett (Limehills Athletic Society), J. J. McCrostie (National Dancing Society), J. J. Watt (Piping Competitions Society) and Ellis Sutton (New Zealand Athletic Union). Many of the chieftains wore tartans and these, with the attractive uniforms of the Invercargill Caledonian Pipe Band, made a colourful scene. The pipe band played selections and other individual pipers, including Miss J. Plunket, gave demonstrations. Trophies won during the year were presented as follows. —A grade piping, D. I. Bowman; B grade, Gordon Elder; C and D grades, A. Mortimer; women’s piping, Miss J. Plunket; most points in Highland dancing events (senior and open), Miss N. Marshall; runner-up, Miss M. Thompson. The ingleside was opened in traditional manner by the Rev. J. A. Thomson and the following programme was presented.—Selection, Pipe Band; Gaelic songs, Mr J. C. McKenzie; dancing demonstration, Miss D. Millar’s pupils; song, Mrs J. Coughley; dancing demonstration, Miss N. Marshall; song, Mr A. Wiseman; dancing demonstration, Madame May Thorn’s pupils; Highland fling, Miss M. Thompson; song, Miss Nan Watt; Highland reels, Madame Thorn’s pupils. Dancing, to music by the Pipe Band, was held between items and continued after the concert programme. Mr J. C. McKenzie was marshal. The accompanists were Mrs Macgregor Wilson Mrs J. J. Watt and Miss Kelly.
