DR McMILLAN CRITICIZED
Remarks Tn Election Address “ACTION DESERVING OF REBUKE” (Special to The Times) r WELLINGTON, May 27. Commenting on the statements made by Dr D. G. McMillan, M.P., at Christchurch on Wednesday, the national health insurance . committee of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association stated that the action of Dr McMillan in introducing a matter concerning the health of the people as a political issue in a byelection could not be too strongly condemned. The association had no intention of being used as a political catspaw. Further, if the Government had any desire whatever to secure the co-opera-tion of the medical profession it should curb the activities of this member of its party, “whose every act and utterance had rendered any process of negotiation, more difficult.” Dr McMillan had misled both the Government and the people, and was now engaged in a campaign which could do nothing but obstruct the Government in endeavouring to implement its policy. To make such statements on the eve of a conference which he well knew to have been arranged was an action deserving of rebuke from the' Minister of Health himself, said the statement.
