CITY GUARDS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FIRING The City Guards Defence Rifle Club fired the third stage of the club chainpionship and completed the presidents cup competition at Otatara on Saturday afternoon, 10 shots being fired at 300 and 500 yards. The conditions were not conducive to good shooting. . R_ a , in fell most of the time and the visibility was poor. Despite the conditions some good scores were registered. Mrs Doake headed the 300 yards scores with the possible 5555555 5 5-50, an excellent performance. A. Ford, with 48, was second, and W. J. Murray, 47, third at this range. At 500 yards A. Ford, with 55455555 5 5-49, was top, J. B. Doake with 48 filling second place. The top aggregate for the day was A. Ford, with 48-49-97 out of the possible 100, & fine performance for the day. With 10 shots at 300 yards and 15 shots at 600 yards to fire to complete the championship, W. J. Murray, with 334, has a three-point lead from J. B. Doake, 331. The President’s Cup was won by W. J. Murray, who reached the handicap limit of 143 without using his handicap. Three tied for first place, Murray winning on the count back at 600 yards. Following are the results:—

THE DEFENCE CLUB n. McWilliams wins club CHAMPIONSHIP The final of the championship of the Invercargill Defence Rifle Club was fired on Saturday in cold and squally conditions. The ranges were 500 and 600 yards, 10 shots at each. N. MacWilliams, who has been in splendid form during the past few months, maintained his form well, making 47 at each range for a total of 94, which was the highest aggregate for the day. This gave him a grand aggregate of 391 out of the possible 405, which is an excellent performance, and his 47 at 600 yards on Saturday in a rapidly-failing light and squally wind was a fine effort. G. Wilson, who was second with 380, also shot well and his 48-44-92 was an excellent score under the conditions. W. Milley was third with 376 J. Clark fourth with 367, and J. Keelty fifth with 357. The latter will be the winner of the B grade. These are the only marksmen who completed the series. Following are the scores:—
