ADULT APPRENTICES
To The Editor
Sir,—ln a recent issue of your paper there was a report of an interview with a manufacturer in a northern city. In his statement he said that a number of men from public works had applied to him for work either as storemen or travellers and that none had applied for apprenticeship under the adult apprenticeship scheme. I have tried several times to get apprenticed under that scheme, both
through employers and through the Government Labour Office, without success. I am willing to take any job offered me under the scheme, preferably wood or metal work. If any P e f" son is prepared to take me on 1 will take any job. I am 32 years of age, I have no ties and am free to go anywhere.
Before closing I would ask all employers this. What good are they doing this country by bringing workers from other countries here? We have a colossal army of unemployed, called public works men. Why don’t employers make use of the Labour Department’s scheme, instead of us all having to help keep people from other countires on the dole when the slump comes? —Yours, etc., _ INTERESTED.
