An official statement says: “Queen Mary spent a good night. Her eye is more comfortable and her general condition is improving.” Queen Mary has written to the driver of the lorry involved in the accident thanking him for his flowers and for his letter hoping for Queen Mary’s speedy recovery. Oueen Mary’s letter added that she hoped the driver was none the worse for his experience. The Duke of Windsor is telephoning frequently from France and hundreds of cables continue to arrive at Marlborough House from throughout the Empire, including repeated messages from the King and Queen.
