Cold, Squally and Showery (Special to. The Times) WELLINGTON, May 25. - Following is the special weather forecast fov Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Strong west to south winds. Weather cold, squally and showery. Sea rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy to overcast, with general rain probable. Heavy falls likely in the northern and northeastern portions of the North Island. Conditions later becoming cold, changeable and showery. General Situation.—A vigorous depression with a long extension in a north-south direction is crossing the Dominion. An intense anti-cyclone extends from Australia on to the Tasman. Winds. —Strong northerlies to gales north of Nelson and Marlborough, decreasing temporarily and tending north-westerly, variable at first over the remainder of the South Island, but a change to strong south-westerlies advancing from the south and west over the Dominion. . Seas.—New Zealand waters, moderate in coastal waters south of East Cape, rough elsewhere; eastern Tasman Sea, strong south-westerly winds soon prevailing generally; seas rough.
