SHEEP YARDINGS SMALLER
VALUES EASIER AT LORNEVILLE
EFFECT OF REDUCTION IN EXPORT RATES The number of sheep yarded at the weekly Lomeville stock sale yesterday showed a big drop compared-with the entries at last week’s sale. In the fat sheep section 802 animals were forwarded, against 1926 last week and the number of store sheep entered showed a decrease of about 900. Values in the fat sheep section were easier because of the reduction in the export rate of a half-penny per lb for wethers and a farthing for ewes. There was a fair proportion of good quality wethers and butchers’ ewes yarded. The entry of fat lambs was small, the majority of the animals being light and unfinished. The quality of the fat cattle yarded was much below that of the animals entered last week. The following are the yardings in the individual sections at the last two
Included in yesterday’s yarding were 10 vealers, 13 dairy cows and three bulls. FAT CATTLE There was a fairly full entry of fat cattle, but the quality was far below that of last week. Compared with last week’s values better quality cattle, taken on the average, were about 10/a head lower. Medium and poorer quality sorts also showed a reduction, but the operations of graziers assisted in keeping the prices fairly even throughout. A percentage of the yarding was passed in. Good quality bullocks made from £lO/10/- to £l2, handyweights £9 to £9/15/-, lightweights £7/10/- to £B/5/-; fair quality cows £8 to £9, medium £6 to £7, aged and unfinished ,£3/10/- to £4/10/-; good quality handyweight heifers £8 to £9, lightweights £6 to £6/15/-, small £5 to £5/10/-.
