BOWLS

TENTATIVE DATES ARRANGED PROPOSED SOUTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT Tentative dates for the proposed South Island championship bowling tournament at Invercargill next season were decided by the Southland Bowling Centre at a special meeting of delegates last night. . It was agreed that the most suitable time to conduct the tournament would be at Christmas and New Year so as not to clash with the New Zealand tournament at Wellington in January. It was decided to begin on December 25 and conclude on or before January 4. Three events would be played, singles, pairs and rinks championships. It was also decided to renew the centre’s application for permission to conduct the tournament and also to send a deputation to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association at Wellington next month in support of the application. Consideration was given to the nominations for the seven South Island seats on the New Zealand Bowling Council and it was decided to support the Southland, Dunedin, Otago Central, North Otago, South Canterbury and Christchurch centres. Mr S. C. K. Smith' is Southland’s nominee. The president (Mr T. R. Pryde) was appointed to support Mr Smith at the annual meeting of the association.
