HARRIERS

INVERCARGILL CLUB’S RUN The Invercargill Harrier Club’s run held at Otatara each year at the invitation of Messrs R. T. and J. Metcalfe is one which is eagerly looked forward to by all members and Saturday’s outing was no exception. The club is deeply indebted to the hosts for their hospitality. A good number of runners turned out under the whistle of the captain, B. Crowther, over a course which led south along the bank of the .Oreti river for about two miles then circled inland for four or five miles past the Borstal Institution farm and home by the road. In a fast run home J. Chaplin led the fast pack followed by J. R. Hubber and A. Ker. The slow pack was headed by W. Eastlake, A. McKenzie and D. Dick. The number of hills encountered and the absence of fences made an excellent run over the type of country as like the Otago course as it is possible to obtain near Invercargill. After afternoon tea the club captain thanked the hosts for the enjoyable outing. Mr R. T. Metcalfe, in replying, offered the club the use of his crib for .any of its Sunday hikes. An alteration has been made in the syllabus for next week’s run which will now be held as the guests 'of Mrs Eastlake, meeting at the corner of Elies road and King street.
