ORPHANS CLUB NIGHT

PRESENTATION OF SERVICE BAR The Invercargill Orphans Club held its meeting on Saturday night. Bro. President J. H. Reed presided over a big attendance of members and visitors. He gave a welcome to eight new memhero. A. W. McKay was presented with a service bar for 35 years’ continuous membership of the club. Bro. President Reed, in making the presentation said that Bro. McKay had always taken a very active part m the affairs of the club. He held the office of president for six years, was vicepresident for six years and a member of the committee for nine years, and was a member of the executive committee. He was a regular contributor to the programmes some years ago being an accomplished cellist and. was conductor of the orchestra for eight years. He was prominent in the club s work of acquiring the Orphans Hall in 192 b. He had always taken a keen interest in the welfare of the club and had been a regular attender at the meetings.. His particular desire was that the principles of orphandom should be always upheld and that the conduct of the meetings be maintained at a high standard. The club, Bro. President Reed said, was all the richer for Bro. McKays association with it. He congratulated him on his long and valuable service. Bro. McKay, in reply, gave some interesting particulars in the early life of the club. His long and happy years of association with it, he said, caused him to look upon the club as an institution in his life. He thanked Bro. President Reed and the members for their warm appreciation of his services. , . A programme of entertainment was contributed by the following: Orchestral selections (conductor Bro. F. Lange); song, Bro. L. Hinkley, recitation, Mr H. Weston; lightning sketches, Bro. W. Matthews; song, Bro. J. E. Gasparich; novelty item with songs, Bros. A. H. J. Wyatt, R. T. Barnett and D. W. McKay; scenic film display, Messrs K. Ingles and V. Troon. The accompanist was Bro. J. H. Watson.
