RESULTS IN MINOR GRADES SATURDAY’S GAMES Matches played in the second, third, fourth and fifth grades of the Southland Rugby Football Union’s competitions on Saturday afternoon resulted: SECOND GRADE BLUFF (9) v. COLLEGIATE (3) Bluff beat Collegiate by nine points to three. H. Cunningham scored a try for Bluff and Calder kicked two penalties. W. Giles kicked a penalty for the loser. PIRATES (20) v. MARIST (0) Pirates beat Marist by 20 points to nil. OLD BOYS (11) v. STAR (3) Old Boys beat Star by 11 points to three. McClean (one) and White (two) scored for Old Boys, one try being converted. Johnson scored for the loser. THIRD GRADE INVERCARGILL (13) v. PIRATES (10) In a curtain-raiser at Rugby Park Invercargill beat Pirates by 13 points to 10. OLD BOYS (27) v. HIGH SCHOOL (3) Old Boys beat High School by 27 points to three. Points were scored for the winner by McLean (four tries and three conversions), Oliver (two tries) and Soper (one try). Ward scored for High School. BORSTAL (16) v. COLLEGIATE (3) Borstal beat Collegiate by 16 points to three. FOURTH GRADE KENNINGTON (16) v. BLUFF (5) Kennington beat Bluff by 16 points to five. TECHNICAL (6) v. STAR (3) Technical beat Star by six points to three. Niven scored a try and kicked a penalty goal for Technical and Ward scored for Star. INVERCARGILL (3) v. PIRATES (3) Invercargill and Pirates drew, three points all. North scored for Invercargill and Stirling scored for Pirates. OLD BOYS (40) v. HIGH SCHOOL (0) Old Boys beat High School by 40 points to nil. MARIST (15) v. COLLEGIATE (14) Marist beat Collegiate by 15 points to 14. FIFTH GRADE MARIST (3) v. INVERCARGILL (0) Marist beat Invercargill by three points to nil. Moylan scored for the winner.

PIRATES (25) v. OLD BOYS (3) Pirates beat Old Boys by 25 points to three. Strathem, Shirley, Smith, Dawson, Owens and McFarlane scored tries for Pirates and Insall kicked a penalty and converted two tries. Old Boys’ points came from a penalty goal.

TECHNICAL (12) v. COLLEGIATE (5) Technical beat Collegiate by 12 points to five. Grenfell, Battersby, McDougall and Cloughley each scored a try for Technical. Brown scored a try for Collegiate and Burke converted it. - r WESTERN DISTRICT GAMES Following are the results of games played in the Western District on Saturday :— SENIORS Waiau 9 beat Western Star 6. Orepuki 6 beat Nightcaps 0. Riverton 17 beat Ohai 3. JUNIORS Western Star 11 beat Ohai 8. Riverton 8 beat Nightcaps 6. THIRD GRADE Ohai 15 beat Nightcaps 12. Otautau 26 beat Orepuki 12. RESULTS OF MATCHES IN SOUTHERN DISTRICT The following are the results of the Southern District Rugby matches played on Saturday. Waimahaka (9) drew with Tahakopa (9). Chaslands (3) drew with Southern Star (3). Seaward Downs (11) beat Oteramika (7). The match between Gorge Road and Morton Mains was postponed because of the wet weather.
