GOOD BOWLING YEAR
INVERCARGILL CLUB TROPHIES PRESENTED AT ANNUAL MEETING The activities of the Invercargill Bowling Club for the past year were reviewed at the annual meeting of the club in the pavilion on Saturday night. Mr A. F. Parfitt was chairman and there was an excellent attendance of members. The annual report, which was adopted, showed that the club had had a busy and progressive season. General satisfaction with the financial position of the club was expressed.. “The good attendance shows that interest in the club is being well maintained,” said Mr Parfitt. He referred to the deaths since the last annual meeting of Mr J. H. Tattersfield and Mr J. Taggart. A motion of sympathy with their relations was passed, members standing in silence as a mark of respect. Mr Parfitt mentioned that bad weather had prevented some of the club competitions from being completed, but it was hoped that they would »be completed very early in the new season. He referred to the good work done by the social committee during the year. The chairman handed in his resignation from the position of president of the club because of his impending transfer to Wellington. Many compliments to Mr Parfitt were paid by members who spoke before Mr H. Semmens made a presentation of a travelling case to Mr Parfitt.
“For six or seven years Mr Parfitt has been a devoted member of this club,” said Mr E. J. Jones. “He has given much time and energy to the progress of the club and is held in the highest regard by members.” Mr Parfitt had been president since the death of Mr J. H. Tattersfield early last season, said Mr Jones, and he had carried out his duties excellently. “His sportsmanship was one of his main qualities,” he said, “and he was liked and respected on and off the green.”
