ADDRESS ON TRAVELS IN SCOTLAND
MEETING OF ST. ANDREW’S SCOTTISH SOCIETY
An address by Mr John Fisher, of Otautau, on travels in Scotland was a feature of the monthly meeting of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society of Southland last night, when the chief, Mr J. L. McG. Watson, presided. Mr Fisher’s address was an intensely interesting one and dealt with his visit to Scotland in July, August and September of 1937. Those members of the audience who had not visited Scotland found much to entertain them in the /address, which was of particular interest to those who had travelled in Scotland in that it refreshed their memories of delightful tours. Mr Fisher’s tour began from Berwick-on-Tweed, which, he said, was the only part of the Tweed which did not form section of the boundary between Scotland and England. He had an enjoyable time in Edinburgh, where he visited the Princes street gardens, Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle. He went to Edinburgh Castle on the day of the commemoration service of the unveiling of the shrine erected to the memory of fallen soldiers. This shrine was said to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Other places that Mr Fisher visited included Melrose, Dalkeith, Abbotsford and Dryburgh Abbey. The following items made up a varied programme: Song, Miss I. Lange; Highland fling, Miss A. Duff; song, Mr W. Liddell; song, Mr S. Anderson; dance, Miss Duff; song, Miss N. Watt; song, Mr A. Lang; violin solo, Mr R. Fraser. Mrs A. F. Manning was the accompanist. •
