DISASTROUS FIRE IN LEVIN
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £4OOO (United Press Association) LEVIN, May 15. The most disastrous fire for many years swept the heart of the business area in Levin at midnight on Sunday, causing damage estimated at £4OOO. It was two hours before it was suppressed. The fire began in premises occupied by Horton Foley, printer, and owned by G. K. Douglas. The building was completely destroyed. The fire 'extended to the roof of the adjoining premises, owned and occupied by Fuen Koy Leong, whose stock of vegetables and fruit was extensively damaged by fire and water. An outbreak in W. Stannard’s stationery premises was extinguished immediately, but stock suffered some damage, amounting to about £BOO. Foley will be a heavy loser. Leong’s stock was insured for £6OO and the shop for £lOOO. Stannard’s stock was insured for £l5OO.
