OUTBREAK OF FIRE IN CAFE

OCCUPANTS USE SKYLIGHT FOR ESCAPE (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, May 13. As a result of a fire at 4 o’clock in the morning serious damage was done to the interior of a brick building occupied as the Central Cafe. Mrs Pope, the proprietress, her son, Mr J. Pope, and a friend, Miss M. Coyne, of Westport, were sleeping at the rear of the premises. They escaped by a skylight and then had to scramble over the roofs of adjoining buildings. They were rescued by ladder. The insurances were £1250 on the building with the South British Office, and £2OO on the stock and fittings with the Alliance Office. Mrs Pope is a heavv loser.
