Changeable with Rain

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, May 14.

Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong winds varying between north-west and south-west. Weather changeable, with rain at times but little in eastern and inland areas. Moderate temperatures, seas rough at times but moderating later. Following is the Dominion forecast: — Weather for the most part fair to.fine; rain at times, however, in the western and southern portions of the South Island, and possibly extending later to scattered parts of the western districts of the North Island. Frosts likely tonight, but temperatures mild tomorrow, especially east to the

ranges. General situation. —The intense anticyclone which has been located over the north Tasman Sea for the last week is still remaining stationary. A depression, however, is moving along its southern edge on to southern New Zealand.

Winds.—Light to moderate southerlies in the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere westerlies to northerlies, becoming strong at times in exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait. Seas. —In New Zealand waters, slight to moderate but rising south of Cape Egmont and in Foveaux Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate westerly to southerly winds and slight seas in the central and northern portions; strong north-westerly winds and rough seas in the southern portion, but wind changing later to south-westerly.

The weather in Invercargill on Saturday was fine and bright. Yesterday conditions were cold and overcast with occasional showers. At one o’clock this morning the weather was calm but cold. The barometer readings for this morning and Saturday and Friday mornings have been as follows:
