GAMES PLAYED IN ALL GRADES

SATURDAY’S RESULTS Results of games played in the second, third, fourth and fifth grades of the Southland Rugby Football Unions competitions on Saturday are:— SECOND GRADE PIRATES (25) v. STAR (0)

Pirates beat Star by 25 points to nil. The points were scored by Mahoney (three tries), Lee (one), McEwan (one) and Shirley (three conversions and a field goal). INVERCARGILL (18) v, OLD BOYS (H) Invercargill beat Old Boys by ,18 points to 11. Tillard, Mcßeath and Chisholm scored a try each and Ramsay kicked three conversions and a penalty goal for Invercargill. Old Boys’ points were scored by Gilbertson and White, one try each, McLean, a conversion and a penalty goal. BLUFF (9) v. MARIST (0) Bluff beat Marist by nine points to nil. Sargent and Fox scored a try each for Bluff and Cooper kicked - 'a penalty goal. THIRD GRADE OLD BOYS (35) v. COLLEGIATE (3) Old Boys beat Collegiate by 35 points to three. Tries were scored for Old Boys by McClean (four), Withington, Richardson, Oliver, Farmer and Sharp (one each) and McClean kicked two conversions and Oliver and Agnew kicked one each. Parkinson kicked a penalty goal for Collegiate. INVERCARGILL (22) v. BORSTAL (0) Invercargill beat Borstal by 22 points to nil. Couling (two), Smith (two) and Green (one) scored tries for Invercargill and Watson kicked two conversions and a penalty goal.

PIRATES (9) v. WAIKIWI (3) Pirates beat Waikiwi by nine points to three. FOURTH GRADE STAR (18) v. COLLEGIATE (6) Star beat Collegiate by 18 points to six. OLD BOYS (14) v. INVERCARGILL (8) Old Boys beat Invercargill by 14 points to eight. Gavan (two), Duncan and Stewart scored tries for Old Boys and Caddie kicked a conversion. Huffadine and Frost each scored a try for the loser and Ramsay kicked a conversion.

MARIST (23) v. BLUFF (0) Playing at Bluff, Marist defeated the home team by 23 points to nil. FIFTH GRADE PIRATES (12) v. MARIST (0) Pirates beat Marist by 12 points to nil. Shirley (two) and McFarlane scored tries for Pirates and Insall kicked a penalty goal. INVERCARGILL (6) v. COLLEGIATE (0) Invercargill beat Collegiate by six points to nil. C. Haggerty scored a try for Invercargill and Watson kicked a penalty goal.

WESTERN DISTRICT GAMES Rugby matches in the Western District on Saturday resulted:— SENIOR Western Star 19 beat Otautau 11. Nightcaps 16 beat Riverton 6. Ohai 13 beat Orepuki 3. Waiau a bye. JUNIOR Riverton 31 beat Western Star 0. Nightcaps 10 beat Waiau 6. Ohai a bye. SOUTHERN SUB-UNION Results of matches played in the Southern Rugby Sub-Union’s competition on Saturday were: Waimahaka 23, Gorge Road 3. Seaward Downs 21, Morton Mains 0.

By defeating Celtic juniors in a match at Gisborne today the Old Boys B junior team won its 50th game in succession. The team has played games in Rotorua, Napier, Hastings, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne and has twice won the local junior championship. Old Boys today won in a hard game by 8 to nil.
