INGENUITY IS THE KEYNOTE OF LATEST HAT FASHIONS
JQESIGNER, WHAT ARE YOU AIMING AT NOW?—Hats on the left of this sketch made fashion history in Europe and those in the shaded portion were seen at autumn races in Australia recently. The hat at top left is of black velvet with a dramatic halo. At centre top is a white toque of niched ribbon with lots of veiling pulled back tightly. At top right is another hat of black velvet with a thick rolled brim and a crown made of deep folds of velvet topped with black feathers. At bottom is a hat of black crinoline straw adorned with cyclamen shaded feathers. . . • >
At top left is a hat of navy felt with a lamp-shade brim and a. high tapering crown trimmed with golden grosgrain ribbon. The wimple, an attractive fashion at top centre, was designed to keep warm ears and. backs of heads exposed by the Edwardian coiffure. A version, of the paillasson bonnet is shown at top right in golden yellow straw.tied with brown plcot-
edged ribbon. The long veil is brown. A sweeping ostrich feather plume in the cyclamen shade adorns the small hat of black stitched taffetas at lower left. Tiny bows of black velvet tie the plume to narrow proportions along the brim. Next to it is a hat of unusual colour combination. It is ’ of clover-pink straw cloth and is banded with olive green jersey. It has a spool-shaped crown and has a kettle-edged straight brim wider at the sides. At lower. right is a Patou heartshaped.hat in black felt. • In the top row from the left in the sketches to the right is seen a Suzy “manhatter”, of black felt.. Next to it is a funnel shaped model with a long veil tying at.the back. A delightful folded line is seen in the formal black beret at . the right. In the lower row at left is an Edwardian model of black felt. In the centre is a spectator sports hat of forest green with a mount of scarlet feathers. At right is the miniature hat by Schiaparelli of navy blue felt with a tiny creased crown. The snood is seen again.
