(Received May 11, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON,'May 10. Mr Hector Bywater, the naval writer of The Daily Telegraph, says he understands that as a result of the negotiations between Britain, Australia and New Zealand, British battleships have been earmarked for Pacific service in the event of an emergency. The number and names cannot be disclosed, but the composition has been calculated with a view to the balance of power in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Well-informed naval circles believe that any threat to New Zealand and Australian territory has practically disappeared. OFFICERS TO MEET AT SINGAPORE DISCUSSION OF DEFENCES (Received May 11, 8.25 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. The Daily Telegraph says that flag officers of the British naval squadrons east of Suez are, it is understood, meeting at Singapore shortly to modernize and co-ordinate the defences.
