FOUR PER CENT. ISSUES ACTIVE ON INVERCARGILL EXCHANGE
The Invercargill Stock Exchange reopened yesterday morning after the Easter vacation. There was a steady inquiry for Government four per cent, issues. Banks, insurances and frozen meat companies’ shares were quiet. Woollen companies’ shares were neglected. Australian industrials showed a hesitant tone, the only line to make headway being G. J. Coles, the price for this company’s scrip (cum. bonus of one in five at par) advancing to £4 2/6. No change was noticeable in the market for New Zealand issues. The metal market was quiet.
A sale of Grey River at 18/3 was reported.
THE WOOL MARKET GOOD GENERAL COMPETITION AT SYDNEY SALES (Received April 18, 9.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 18. At the wool sales today there was 1 good general competition, with improved activity on the Japanese account. Greasy Merino made up to ISAd. A total of 7814 bales was offered, of which 6560 were sold, also 859 privately. THE WHEAT MARKET CARGOES LOWER AND PARCELS STEADY (Received April 17, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 16. American wheat cargoes are down by 3d but Australians are steady. Parcels are steady and business is fair. Futures.—Liverpool (old May contract): 4/s|. Liverpool (new contract): May, 4/22; July, 4/4g; October, 4/6g. Chicago: May, 69} cents a bushel; July, 68J; September, 68g. MINING KANIERI DREDGE (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, April 18. For the first half of April the Kanieri dredge worked 223 hours and handled 96,000 yards for 5150 z, BARRYTOWN DREDGE (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, April 18. For the first half of April the Barrytown dredge worked 213 hours on 96,000 yards for 3460 z. MATAKI (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 18. The Mataki return for the five-day period ended April 14 was 220 z for 7600 yards. KILDARE CONSOLIDATED (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 18. The Kildare Consolidated wash-up for 10 weeks two days was 460 z lldwt. STOCK SALES YARDING OF 4000 SHEEP AT MOSSBURN There was a yarding of about 4000 sheep at the Mossburn stock sale, satisfactory prices being realized. Tire yarding consisted mainly of fat lambs, which sold at full schedule rates. The demand was good, although there was not a very big attendance of buyers. Prices realized for fat lambs ranged from 12/- to 16/3.
Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., sold: 104 ewes at 17/4, 300 wether lambs at 16/3, 66 wethers at 15/6, 13 at 14/6, 115 s.m. ewes at 19/1, 200 ewe lambs at 19/7, 26 2-tooth ewes at 25/4, 51 fat lambs at 17/-, 15 fat ewes at 8/3, 85 fat lambs at 21/1, 176 at 19/8, 124 at 16/4, 76 at 21/-, 11 Romney rams at 2gns, 3 at 4 gns.
