SHIPPING SCHEDULES AGAIN AFFECTED

KAIN RETARDS WORK ON SIX VESSELS Rain again interrupted work on the waterfront at Bluff yesterday and most of the ships in port have again been delayed. Work was possible only at intervals and very little progress was made on some vessels. Six ships were working yesterday and every berth was occupied. The Federal Line steamer Northumberland, the Union Company’s motorvessel Kauri and the same company’s intercolonial steamer Karetu were at the main wharf; the Union Company’s steamers Wainui and Waitaki were both berthed behind the tug at the ferry wharf and the collier Poolta occupied the inside berth at the eastern end of the main wharf.

The Waitaki was despatched last evening for Dunedin, but the other vessels will be in port until today at least. Tomorrow, the Shell Company’s tanker Paua, from Wellington, and the Union Company’s steamer Waimarino, from Dunedin, are due here. The Port Line motor-ship Port Townsville and the Runciman Shipping Company’s vessel Glenmoor are both expected towards the end of the week, so the present activity should be maintained for several days yet. HOTEL GUESTS Recent arrivals at the Club Hotel include Mr R. H. Steele (Dunedin), Misses Mcßein (Otama) and Mr K. Robbie (Invercargill). Latest guests at the Bay View Hotel include Messrs W. L. Goldsmith (Dunedin), H. McDonald (Mossburn), J. W. P. Thompson (Port Pegasus) and A. J. Halbert (Invercargill). GOLF The second round of the Bluff Golf Club’s stroke competition was played over nine holes in fine weather. There was a big attendance and several good cards were returned. The best were: A. R. Ross 45, W. L. Doyle 47, A. M. Wilson 48, A. C. McKillop 49. Among the women players the best score was returned by Mrs Whaitiri, who went round in 52.
