WOMEN’S DIVISION

MOKOTUA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Mokotua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Mokotua tennis pavilion. The best bloom competition for the year was won by Mrs Clearwater, with Miss Munro second. The competition for the most articles was also won by Mrs Clearwater.

At the annual meeting the balancesheet was adopted by the president. The election of office-bearers resulted: President, Mrs Munro; secretary, Miss Taylor; vice-presidents, Mesdames Clearwater and Robinson; advisory member, Mrs Hansen; delegates to executive, Mesdames Clearwater and Mincher.

Miss Robinson was first in the bloom competition and Mrs Clearwater second. Miss Robinson was also first in the covered coathanger competition, with Miss Robbie second. There is to be a roll call at the May meeting. HEDGEHOPE BRANCH Mrs J. Sanderson presided over a fair attendance of members! at the annual meeting of the Hedgehope branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The balance-sheet, which showed a satisfactory credit balance, was adopted. The competitions held during the past year resulted in the following gaining most points in various sections:—Cooking and needlework: Mrs J. Sanderson 1, Miss I. Jukes 2, Miss W. McKay 3. Gardening: Mrs Leebody and Mrs Young leq, Miss C. Sanderson 2. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: President, Mrs J. Sanderson (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mrs Young and Mrs Blackler; secretary, Miss K. McKay (re-elected); advisory members, Mrs Sanderson, Mrs McKay, Mrs Young and Mrs Blackler; auditor, Mr C. P. Beck; competition book, Misses I. and B. Jukes; dress correspondent, Mrs C. Beck. Competitions resulted as follows: Shrewbury biscuits: Mrs Jukes 1, I. Jukes 2, Mrs Young and Miss K. McKay 3eq. Mrs Young passed a vote of thanks to the president for he: - untiring work.

The roll call was “Your favourite author.”

During the afternoon opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Miss McDonald, one of the foundation members, who is leaving the district. The president, Mrs Sanderson, on behalf of the Hedgehope members, presented Miss McDonald with a crystal powder bowl and candle stick. Miss McDonald replied. WAIAU BRANCH The annual meeting of the Waiau branch of the Women’s Di vision of th<» Farmers’ Union was held at Mrs Rowley’s home. Mrs Young presided over a good attendance of members. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs 3. E. Watson; vicepresidents, Mesdames F. Young and R. King; secretary, Mrs F. Bates; delegates, Mrs D. O’Brien and Miss E. Diack; advisory board, Mesdames R. Pearce and A. Rowley. Following the meeting a programme was drawn up for the coming year after which a competition was held which was won by Mrs Watson.
