(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, April 17. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the meteorological office, Wellington: Light to fresh winds, varying between north-west and southwest. Weather changeable, with rain at times and fair intervals. Moderate temperatures. Seas rather rough.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy to overcast in western and southern portions of the South Island, with rain at times; elsewhere mainly fair to fine, but scattered light rains becoming more widespread in districts with a westerly aspect and the South Island. Temperatures moderate. General Situation.—Pressure is falling slowly over the Dominion undei" the influence of a series of shallow depressions advancing across the Tasman Sea. Over south-eastern Australia pressure is rising.* Winds.—North to west and turning later in places, more especially in western and southern districts to south-west, strong at times about and south of Cook Strait, elsewhere "moderate. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough about Cook and Foveaux Strait and on parts of the west coast of the South Island, otherwise slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, winds rather variable, with north-west to south-west predominating, force light to fresh, seas slight to moderate.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was wet, but warm. Heavy showers fell during the day but eased late in the evening. At one o’clock this morning the weather was calm and mild with light rain falling.
