DEFEAT OF GOLDEN SHEILA AGOG FIRST IN HURDLE EVENT (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 17. The weather was fine and the track firm for the second day of the Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn meeting. The attendance was good. The totalizator handled £35,173, compared with £30,791 10/- on the second day last year, an increase of £4381 10/-. The total was £82,245, compared with £65,255 last year, an increase of £16,990. At the annual sale of racehorses in training, brood mares, stallions and untried stock today an offer of 1400 guineas for the New Zealand horse Malagigi was refused. The owner, Mr G. Nelson, expressed his willingness to accept 1500 guineas which he hopes to ,-ecure privately. A former New Zealand horse, Troy, was bought by Mr C. Goodfellow (Melbourne) for 350 guineas. Bourbon was passed in at 650 guineas, Billy Boy was passed in at 190 guineas and Mohican was passed in at 425

guineas. An English stallion, SolicitorGeneral, was passed in at 1100 guineas. Another stallion from the Elderslie stud, Iliad, was acquired by Osborne and Bennett lor 525 guineas. Courtcraft, submitted by a New Zealander, Mr W. H. Gaisford, was sold to Mr S. McDonald for 775 guineas. The best ’ ' e for brood mares was 525 guineas, paid by Mr W. Henderson for Grumeti, by Ksar-Ad Gloriam. Mr Alan Cooper paid 450 guineas for Manitza, by Manna-Waritza.
