Horton, Mokotua. Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Broughton, returned yesterday from Christchurch, where they spent a fortnight’s holiday. Miss L. F. Watson, Forth street, is spending a few days as the guest of Mrs D. Murray-Menzies, The Knoll, Dipton. Mrs J. G. Herdman, Christchurch, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs H. Cj. Sutton, Alexandra, and formerly -f Invercargill. Miss Nancy Bond will arrive from Timaru on Wednesday to stay with her par.nts, Mr and Mrs W. N. Bond, Dunrobin. Mr and Mrs Lindsay Trotter and their small daughter, Lynette, left by car on Saturday for a holiday at Oamaru and Ashburton. Major Astley Campbell and Mrs Campbell are staying for a few weeks

at the home of Mrs E. C. Giller, Pine Terrace, Mossbum. Mr and Mrs H. Johnston, Gisborne, who are the guests of Mrs H. R. Williams, Norwood, made a week-end trip to the Eglinton Valley. Miss Ngaire Wilson, Wellington, who is the guest of Miss Parfitt, Grace street, will leave for the north on Wednesday, and will stay in Dunedin and Timaru en route. Mr and Mrs Hugh Webb, who are spending part of their furlough from India in New Zealand, will leave Invercargill tomorrow for the north, and will sail for England early next month. OBITUARY MRS MARGARET MILLER The death occurred at Gore on Thursday of Mrs Margaret Miller, who was well known in the Mandeville and Wendonside districts, where she lived for nearly 50 years. Mrs Miller was born at Milton 71 years ago and was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Christopher Robinson, who were among the first settlers of the Tokomiriro district. She was educated at the Moneymore school and 52 years ago she married Mr Robert Miller, taking up residence at Wendonside. For about 25 years they lived at Wendonside and then they moved to Mandeville where Mr Miller continued farming. They shifted to Gore about eight years ago, taking up residence in Jacobstown. Mr Miller died four years ago. Mrs Miller took a keen interest in district affairs while residing at Wendonside and Mandeville. Her main interest was in her home, however, and she took great pride in her flower garden. She was also a keen knitter. She is survived by a family of one daughter, Mrs W. Sheed (Gore), and four sons, Messrs Robert Miller (Mandeville), Christopher Miller (Gore), John Miller (Otamita) and William Miller (Mandeville). BRIDE-ELECT ENTERTAINED AT WYNDHAM Miss Helen Strang, who is shortly to be married, was the guest of honour at a recent social evening at the residence of Mrs W. Home, Florence street, Wyndham. The games and competitions were won by Mrs O. Jones and Miss Hazel Stewart. Mr A. H. Jones sang a solo and all took part in community singing. On behalf of her Wyndham friends Mrs Home presented Miss Strang with a case of afternoon teaspoons, at the same time Wishing her every happiness in her new home. Miss Strang replied. Mr A. H. Jones also spoke on behalf of neighbours and Mr O. Gillespie replied Those present were:—Mr and Mrs W. Home, Mr and Mrs A. H. Jones. Mesdames W. Crighton and 0. Jones. FAREWELL PARTY TO BRIDE-ELECT In view of her approaching marriage, Miss Nan Tait was recently entertained at a kitchen afternoon. There was a big attendance and in asking the bride elect to accept the extensive array of household utensils, Mrs S. Kennedy conveyed the best wishes of all present, for her future success and happiness. Miss Tait acknowledged the gifts and good wishes. A missing word competition was won by Mrs D. Herron and a solo was contributed by Mrs T. Herron, the accompanist being Mrs J. Brown.

ST. CATHERINE’S EX-PUPILS ELECTION OF COMMITTEE At the annual election of committees for the play-reading, music and bridge circles of St. Catherine’s Ex-Pupils Association, Mrs W. Baird presided ovej a fair attendance of members. The president, in opening the meeting, complimented the retiring committee members on their activities during the past season and expressed the hope that the same interest in the various circles’ evenings would be shown in the new season. . The following committees were elected* Bridge: Mrs W. Crooks (convener), Miss Joyce Harvey. Music: Miss R. Shepherd (convener), Miss Marie McCormick, Miss Marie Searle, Mrs C. Schroeder. Play-reading: Mrs D. Mulvey „convener), Mrs M. Rattray, Misses Clarice Cook and Honor Moylan. It was decided that the first bridge evening be held on Tuesday next, with the opening nights for the music and play-reading circles to be held as soon as possible. GRAND EASTER BALL LIMEHILLS ATHLETIC CLUB ENTERTAINS The Limehills Atheltic Club held a grand Easter ball in the Limehills Hall on Monday night, when there was a large attendance. Messrs C.
