BIBLE-CLASS CAMP AT DIPTON

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The Easter camp of the Presbyterian Young Men’s Bible classes was held on the Dipton recreation ground, Bible class leaders and members from all parts of Southland being present. The camp was an unqualified success. The camp committee was as follows: Chairman, the Rev. J. A. Thomson; camp father, Mr J. Waddell; commissariat, Mr F. S. Penman; camp cook, Mr A. Pope; publicity, Messrs J. A. McAlister and J. C. Mackenzie; study circle leader, the Rev. I. R. Polson; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. E. Botting. Assistance was given to the camp by a Dipton committee headed by Messrs Polson and J. Harrison.

Several addresses, the theme of which was “Victorious Living,” were given, the speakers being the Rev. L. Kernohan (Knox), the Rev. R. W. Brown (Kelso), the Rev. I. R. Polson (Dipton), the Rev. J. A. Thomson (First) and the Rev. J. Newlands (Winton).

Sports were held on the Saturday afternoon, the church gaining most points and winning the' Percy Boyes Memorial Challenge Cup being Winton. North Invercargill was runner-up. Local residents were entertained at a camp concert in the Dipton Hall in the evening.

On Monday evening members of the Dipton church session and Bible classes were entertained at a camp dinner. The toast list was as follows:—“The King” (chairman), “The Church” (proposed by Mr T. Page and replied to by the Rev. I. R. Polson), “The Bible Class Movement” (Mr H. T. Robertson—Mr W. J. Bennett), “Our Guests” (Mr J. E. Botting—Mr C. Gray), “The Chair” (Mr J. C. Mackenzie).

The camp was struck at 6 o’clock on Tuesday morning.
