The Manawatu provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union instructed the secretary to investigate and report on the responsibility of transport firms for losses of sheep in transit. A member mentioned a case in which 149 sheep were loaded on a lorry but the owner neglected to receive a consignment note; four sheep were lost during transit.
