SOUTH ISLAND MEN’S DOUBLES (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, April 15. C. Angas and H. A. Barnett retained the men’s tennis doubles championship of the South Island when they beat B. A. Barrer and S. Watson in three straight sets today. The score was 6—4, 6—4, 6—3. BOXING BAKER AND JENKIN TO MEET When Dick Baker and Norman Jenkin met in the semi-final of the amateur lightweight boxing championship at Wellington three years ago, the contest brought members of the crowd to their feet with excitement. Their second meeting will take place in the Civic Theatre next Monday, this time over 10 three-minute rounds, as both boxers are now professionals. Baker has been in solid' training. Every effort is being made to stage good preliminary bouts and the main amateur contest will be a six-round bout between W. Jack, of Timaru, the present middleweight champion of New Zealand, and Bill Enright, the local middleweight champion.
