AN ADVENTURE
—HIGHLY COMMENDED—
I was having a party for my birthday. We were playing games outside in the dark. The game was hide-and-seek. I hid in the barn. I stayed (there for a long time, then, thinking they had forgotten about me, I came out. Imagine what a fright I had when I saw something white standing at the fence staring at me. I screamed and ran home as fast as I could. I told the others about it and we all went back with torches and lamps to see what it was. How
they laughed when we saw that it was only a sheet put over a post with a turnip on top made like a face. Some boys had*put it there to frighten me. —2 marks to Cousin Dorothy Lake V.A.C., M.A., (10), Section 8, Glencoe R.D. ' —HIGHLY COMMENDED— One day when I was a small girl, I was playing on my father’s launch while he was working at the e-gine.
The launch was anchored out in the bay.
I was playing on the deck running backwards and forwards, to and fro, when dad heard a splash. I was over, bobbing up and .down, getting mouthfuls of sea water, spluttering and gurgling. Dad rushed out of the engine room, grabbed up the boat hook and hooked me up. with it. I was drenched from head to foot. I was taken ashore. I went up home and put dry clothes on which made me feel better.
