AN ADVENTURE
—HIGHLY COMMENDED—“WiII you have some food?” the gnome asked Peter as he wandered through the bush. He had seen the little gnome’s house in the tree tops the day before, but this was his first glimpse of the inside. ' “Thank you very much,” said Peter, very curious to taste gnome’s food. The gnome led him into the din-ing-room where some plates of food were laid out on a table. There was one plate of bright blue and green
cakes, and the gnome explained that they were called sky-grass. The blue ones, he said, make people happy, and the green ones lazy. Peter had one of each, and liked them very much indeed. “Try one of these,” said the gnome pointing to a long string of things that looked like onions. “They are called star globes, and make you see the stars.”
Peter ate two, and sure enough he could see the stars in broad daylight There was the dog star, with its dog* collar bn,‘the evening star with its evenins collar on, the cole star,
with its polo collar on, and a lot of others. Peter’s father had shown him some of them through his telescope, but Peter had never seen them so clearly, “And you must have a glass of moss juice!” added the gnome. “Thank you very much, I should like to try it,” replied Peter. Moss juice tasted like strawberries, choco-. late fudge, bananas and orange juice all mixed up together and Peter thought it was good. He drank a glassful in one big gulp and he coughed and spluttered. It woke him up, and he sat up, rubbed his eyes and was surprised to find it was only a dream. —2 marks to Cousin Alexander McCleery V.A.C., (10), 193 Ritchie street.

One day as I was going for a walk in the woods I got lost. I did not know what to do. I ran about trying to get out of the trees. All at once a man came up and took me back to my mother and father. So that was how I had my adventure. T , —2 marks to Cousin Melva Lake A.C., (8), Tussock Creek,
