RETAIL PRICES FOR WOOLPACKS

CHARGES ARRANGED BY GOVERNMENT (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 14. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (the HOn. D. G. Sullivan) announced today that by Order-in-Council the Government has fixed the retail price of woolpacks for the 193940 season at 4/5 for 42’s, 4/9 for 48’s and 5/1 for 54’s. Importers are required to purchase flax packs in proportion to three of flax to every five of jute, following the policy to ensure the complete absorption of the Foxton output. FROZEN MEAT MARKET » (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 14. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board advises that the following are the approximate average prices realized for the week based on actual transactions, wholesale quantities and descriptions of meat mentioned and for representative parcels of goods offering during the week being for business done on the basis of delivery to Smithfield market and ex-London stores.

Prime lamb, two’s and eight’s a shade easier; others unchanged; consumption satisfactory for the time of the year, but heavy spot stocks are depressing the market. Wethers, trade slow at lower prices. Ewes steady with fair trade. Frozen beef is neglected because of the low prices of chilled beef. Chilled beef is weaker because of heavy supplies and slow demand. New Zealand porker pigs are easier on slow trade due to warmer weather. Baconer pigs are weaker because of lower prices of Continental bacon. Boneless bobby veal is quiet, but unchanged.
