OBITUARY

MR C. L. RICE

The death occurred at Gore yesterday morning of Mr Cyril Leslie Rice after a brief illness. Mr- Rice was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Oswald Rice, of 29 Lewis street, Invercargill, and he was born at Timaru. When still a child he went with his parents to Invercargill and was educated at the Park school. He later entered his father’s business and learned the confectionery trade. Following the retirement of Mr Rice, sen., the sons acquired the factory and other business premises, carrying on under the name of Rice Brothers. About 10 years ago Mr Cyril Rice severed his connection with the firm and went to Timaru, where he conducted a business on his own account. About two years ago he went to Gore, where he maintained various business interests. Mr Rice was a keen sportsman and he was a member of the Queen’s Park and Gore golf clubs and the Invercargill Railway Rowing Club. During his residence in Invercargill he was a member of the St. John’s Anglican Church choir and the Invercargill Operatic Society. Mr Rice was 43 years of age. He is survived by his widow, his parents and two brothers.
