LETTERS SENT BY REFUGEES

PERMISSION TO LIVE IN N.Z. SOUGHT

MR PARRY DISCUSSES TRIALS OF PEOPLE

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, April 13.

Each overseas mail to the Dominion, brings letters to members of the Government from refugees of countries immediately of likely to be affected by the international situation, the writers pleading to be allowed to settle in New Zealand. Some of the letters are written in the language of the country to which the writers belong. Others are a mixture of foreign and English languages. I Many letters describe in minute detail the work the writers can do or their abiding love for New Zealand and their willingness strictly to adhere to the laws of the Dominion. Mentioning some of the letters he had received as Minister of Internal Affairs from refugees, the Hon. W. E. Parry said that they showed all too plainly the terrible trials of people whose country was in conflict with another country. “They bring to one clearly the ravages of a modern conflict of nations and the dire distress it brings,” he said.
