OHAI BEATS WOMEN’S
TEAM
MARGIN OF 66 RUNS
A cricket match between an Invercargill women’s team and a men s team from Ohai was played at the Doon street ground on Saturday, and was won by the visitors by 66 runs. Misses E. Blackie and I. Dixon, who opened the batting for the women, gave their side a good start with 21 runs before the partnership was broken, ana Miss Ingram, who succeeded Miss Dickson, also batted well. The other wickets, however, fell cheaply to the bowling of Grindlay, who took six for 35 runs. Thomson and Dalkie opened for the visitors, but failed to get going. Muis and Taylor contributed a useful score, and a vigorous exhibition was given by Grindlay, who retired at 55 and at no time looked like going out. Craig made 16 and Hunt carried his bat tor 23. WELLINGTON The Wellington Cricket Association’s season officially concluded on Saturday. In the final of the knock-out competition, which was confined to one day because of rain on the previous Saturday, Kilbirnie 196 (D. S. Wilson 47, H. F. Rice 35, Blundell seven wickets for 61 runs) beat Wellington 142 (J. Ell 29, J. Ashenden four wickets for 57 runs and D. S. Wilson three for 36). AUCKLAND The outstanding feature of. the final day’s play in the Auckland Cricket Association’s senior grade competition was the batting of the New Zealand representative, W. M. Wallace, who scored 231 not out in 205 minutes. Wallace has scored 1002 runs in club cricket this season, the scores in his last three innings being 204, 176 and 231 not out. V. J. Scott, who required 130 to complete his 1000 runs in club cricket, failed bv 53 runs. The championship was won by Eden with 39 points, three points ahead of North Shore, the runner-up. The premier side drew with Middlemore, scoring 333 in the first innings to which Middlemore replied with 246 for six wickets (H. T. Pearson 109, D. L. Martin 52). Parnell 350 for eight (W. M. Wallace 231 not out) beat University 208 on the first innings. In reply to Ponsonby-Balmoral s first innings total of 264, Y.M.C.A. made 357 for seven wickets (A. E. Wilkinson 134, V. J. Scott 77, C. P. Lund 52 not out). , . . North Shore gained a first innings win against Grafton, scoring 151 and 118 for eight wickets declared (L. Curtayne 39), Grafton compiling 94 (J. B. Simpson six wickets for 36 runs) and 107 for six wickets (Simpson four wickets for 38 runs).
