Unsettled, with Light Rain at Times (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, March 20. Following is the special, weather forecast for Southland by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate south-westerly winds, later becoming light and variable. Weather unsettled, with light rain at times, but improving later. Cooler temperatures. Seas rather rough in places, but mostly moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to cloudy, otherwise fine at first in most districts. Scattered rains in the far south, extending northwards, possibly as far as Taranaki and Wellington. A few heavy falls likely. Temperatures mild. General Situation.—The pressure remains rather high to the north, while a shallow depression is crossing the southern part of the South Island. Winds.—Rather variable at first, with north-westerlies to westerlies predominating. A change to south-wester-lies advancing from the south, force light to freshSeas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough at times in parts of Cook and Foveaux Straits, otherwise slight tc moderate; Eastern Tasman Sea, light fresh northerly to north-westerly winds. A change to southerlies advancing from the west, seas slight to moderate. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was unsettled. Rain fell in the afternoon and a southerly wind blew. The evening was mild and calm. At. one o’clock this morning the weather was calm and mild.
