STEADY INCREASE IN AIRMAIL POSTINGS

8 PER CENT. MORE THAN LAST YEAR

Since 12 months ago when a greatly improved inland airmail service was provided by connections with the west and east coasts of the North Island and the west coast of the South Island there has been a steady increase in the business handled in Invercargill for the inland airmail. Compared with last year’s figures there has been an increase of approximately eight per cent. An enormous increase in airmail postings is expected when the Invercargill airport is opened and the In-vercargill-Auckland service inaugurated. This service will enable letters to be carried from Invercargill to Auckland in one day. Both the east and west coasts of the North Island, at least the centres served by the air routes, will be within one day’s journey of Invercargill. it is also expected that a big proportion of the mail from Invercargill to Dunedin which is at present sent by ordinary postage will be sent by airmail when the service is introduced.
