TEST CARRIED ON TO TENTH DAY EDRICH MAKES RECORD AT DURBAN DURBAN, March 13. In the fifth Test stumps were drawn early because of bad light, and an amazing match was carried on to the tenth day with England requiring 200 runs with seven wickets in hand. The Englishmen must leave Durban tomorrow evening to catch their liner for home. The wicket showed signs of cracking but played few tricks till a shooting top-spinner beat P. A. Gibb after 451 minutes Subsequently a rising ball got W. J. Edrich, who was in top form and gave a chanceless innings, lasting 436 minutes, during which he hit 25 fours. Edrich, with 219, made a new individual record for England in Test matches against South Africa. The previous best was Jack Hobbs’s 211 at Lord’s in 1924. Scores:— SOUTH AFRICA
