BUILDING ACTIVITY IN WINTON
£20,000 SPENT DURING LAST 12 MONTHS
A record amount was spent on building in Winton during the past 12 months according to a statement made by Cr N. Metzger, chairman of the Works Committee, at a meeting of the Winton Borough Council last evening. Cr Metzger said that more than £20,000 had been spent in building, £17,000 worth actually in the borough and the remainder on the edge of the boundary. This was a good indication, he said, that Winton was going ahead in keeping with the progress of other towns. Cr W. H. J. Shaw said that about 70 new electrical instalments had been made by . the Electric Power Supply in Winton during the past 12 months which was further proof of additional building. “This is the publicity we want,” said the Mayor (Mr T. Walker). “More publicity of this type is better than what we. are getting. The last publicity, the heading of which appeared as ‘untidy streets’ when the little matter of paper blowing about the streets was discussed was uncalled for. It gave the impression that our town was untidy.”
