NEW OFFICERS FOR BRITISH NAVY
COUNTER TO EXPANSION OF FLEET (British Official Wireless) (Received March 13, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, March 12. The Admiralty is taking immediate steps to avoid any shortage of executive officers as a result of the present rapid expansion of the Fleet. A number of selected warrant officers will be promoted to lieutenant. Additional officers of the Royal Navy Reserve, 250 of whom have already passed into the Navy, will also be transferred. Young officers of the Merchant Navy who are found suitable will be entered, irrespective of the fact that they have no experience in the Royal Navy Reserve; this is a new departure. Temporary employment in the Fleet for three years will also be offered to suitable officers of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and members of the Royal Navy Volunteer Supplementary Reserve.
