COMING-OF-AGE PARTY AT TE TIPUA

MR AND MRS B. V. ROSS ENTERTAIN Mr and Mrs B. V. Ross, “Hill View,” Te Tipua, entertained at their home on a recent evening, in honour of the coming-of-age of their eldest son, Sam. The evening was spent in dancing in the barn, which was decorated with streamers and greenery. The music was played by Mr J. Young and extras were played by Mr L. Ross, jun. During the evening a tap dance was given by Miss I. Bishop, of Gore. A lucky spot waltz was won by Mr and Mrs G. Copeland and a competition by Miss W. Copeland. During the evening Mr Ross called on his son to light the 21 candles and presented him with a watch and the customary key. Those present were: Mr and Mrs B. V. Ross, Mr and Mrs A. Ross, Mr and Mrs C. Boyle, Meldrum street, has returned from a holiday at Dunedin. Miss Mona Corcoran, Grange street, was a visitor to Invercargill last week. Mrs R. B. Wilson and her children, Great North road, are spending a holiday at Middlemarch. Mrs W. H. King and Miss Norma King, Park street, spent a few days in Invercargill last week. , Mrs R. Woods, of South Hillend, has been spending a holiday in Dunedin. Mrs M. Olive and Miss Dorothy Olive left for Wellington on Monday, where they will join the Wanganella for Sydney. At Sydney they will join the Orcades for England, where they will spend an extended holiday. Misses H. and J. Nicholson, Devereaux road, spent the week-end at Invercargill. Mr and Mrs R. C. Stenhouse, Prince street, and Mr and Mrs -H. Mclntosh, Clyde street, have left on a motor tour of the South Island. Mr and Mrs T. N. Eastlake, Church street, Mrs J. P. McWilliam and Miss M. McKenzie, Park street, have returned from a holiday at Riverton. I Mrs P. Lde la Perrelle, Park street, and Mrs O. A. B. Smith, Home street, recently spent a few days at Athol. Miss Thelma Cook, of Lumsden, has been the guest of Mrs E. Ward, South Winton.

Miss Joyce Butler, Park street, was a visitor to Invercargill for the weekend. Hostesses in honour of Miss Dorothy Olive during the week included Mesdames A. Hagerty, Park street, J. Lawrence, Great North road, and Misses T. Clark, M. Tilley and I. Shand. Mrs T. McGillivray, Lady Barkly, was a visitor to Bluff, last week. Miss I. Jenkins, of Invercargill, spent the'week-end with Miss T. Valli, East Winton.

Miss V. Chalmers, of Brydone, is the guest of her sister, Mrs P. Boylen, Great North road. Miss M. Mclntyre, Clyde street, spent the week-end at Tussock Creek. Miss L. McAlister, of Invercargill, spent the week-end with Mrs N. Metzger, Essex street Miss P. Hishon, of South Hillend, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Miss H. Schofield, of Bluff, has been the guest of her sister, Mrs R. Swale, Ranui, Limehills.
