mild. . , General Situation.—Anti- cyclones are located respectively over northern New Zealand and southeastern Australia. Between them is a shallow depression which is now approaching the southern part of the South Island. Winds.—West to north prevailing strong at times in some exposed positions, but mainly, moderate, A change to southerlies beginning in the far south tonight and becoming general by about Sunday morning. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough at times in Cook and Foveaux Straits and in parts of the West Coast but for the most part slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman.—Light to fresh north to northwest winds but a change to southerlies advancing later from the southwest. Seas generally slight to moderate but rather rough at times in the central and southern portions.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and sunny, with a light breeze from the south-west. At one o’clock this morning the weather was mild although a strong westerly wind was blowing.
