SITUATIONS VACANT RECRUITS REQUIRED VACANCIES exist for a number of recruits in the N.Z. Regular Military Fores. Applicants must fulfil the following requirements, otherwise no use applying:— (a) Be serving members of the Territorial Force. (b) Be British subjects. (c) Be unmarried. (d) Be between the ages of 19 and 25 years. A recruit must have attained the age of 19 years but not passed his 25th birthday on 22nd March, 1939. (e) Be physically fit for active service. , , , (f) Have passed the 6th standard of education or its equivalent. (g) Be not below sft Sin in height (in socks). Apply at the Headquarters of your Unit, or at the nearest Defence Office, by noon on 14th FEBRUARY. 9390 NEW ZEALAND DIVISION OF THE ROYAL NAVY. ENTRY OF STOKERS, SEAMEN BOYS, AND SHORT SERVICE SEAMEN. FIFTEEN STOKERS are required for entry in May, 1939. Candidates for entry as Stokers should be between the ages of 18 and 22 on sth May, 1939. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 10th MARCH, 1939. Twenty-two SEAMEN BOYS are required for entry in May, 1939. Candidates for entry as Seamen Boys should be between the ages of 15 years 3 months and 16 years 3 months on 26th May, 1939. , _ Candidates within one month of these age limits may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 31st MARCH, 1939. Twenty SHORT SERVICE ORDINARY SEAMEN are required for entry in June, 1939. Candidates for entry should be between the ages of 17J and 23 on 16th June, 1939. Service is for six years in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and six years in the Reserve, with an option of transferring to continuous service if recommended. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 21st APRIL, 1939. JOIN THE NAVY. VACANCIES exist as follows in the undermentioned branches of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy:— ASSISTANT COOK. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 23 years. Knowledge of cooking and baking is desirable but not essential. ASSISTANT STEWARD OR BOY STEWARD. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service for Assistant Steward. Age limits 18 to 23 years. 12 years’ continuous service from age 18 for Boy Steward. Age limits 16 to 18 years. Candidates are required to pass a test in reading, writing and simple arithmetic. ENGINE ROOM ARTIFICER. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during present year 19? to 24 years. Candidates must be competent at one of the following trades:—Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Coppersmith, Boilermaker or Enginesmith.' They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry. Those who hold a 2nd Class Engineer’s Board of Trade Certificate will"be accepted without technical examination. ELECTRICAL ARTIFICERS. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during present year 19? to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient fitters, or fitters and turners, or instrument makers. They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry. ORDNANCE ARTIFICER. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during the present year 19? to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient fitters or fitters and turners. They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prioi - to entry.

SHIPWRIGHT. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience as shipwright. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. BLACKSMITH. 1 vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workman with at least 5 years’ practical experience as Blacksmith. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry.

PAINTER. 1 vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience as Painter. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry.

JOINER. 1 vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience as Joiner. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry.

PLUMBER. 1 vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience' as Plumber. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. SICK BERTH PROBATIONER. 2 vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 22 years. Candidates are required to possess a fair knowledge of Arithmetic (simple money sums; weights and measures; decimals, proportion and percentages). Knowledge of dispensary is desirable but not essential.
