PRISONERS SENTENCED AT HAMILTON
(United Press Association) HAMILTON, February 7.
Two prisoners who were found guilty during the criminal session of the Supreme Court in Hamilton, were sentenced by Mr Justice Smith. Ernest Roy Thornton, aged 31, found guilty of negligent driving at Whatawhata on September 3, and thereby causing the death of Maurice Desmond Kelly, was admitted to probation for two years, was ordered to pay the costs, £5B 10/9, and was instructed to take out a prohibition order during the term of his probation. His present driving licence was cancelled and he was debarred from holding another licence for five years. Charles Edward Salter, aged 38, a stock dealer, belonging to Taumarunui, found guilty of the theft of cattle, was fined £75. He was ordered to pay the costs, £33 11/4, and was allowed one week in which to pay in default six months’ hard labour.
