BRUTAL MURDER OF YOUNG WOMAN

BROTHER GRAVELY INJURED (Received February 5, 7.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 5. The brutal murder of a prominent young woman and grave injuries to her brother have stirred the northern districts of New South Wales? The dead woman, Constance Sommerlad, aged 36, kept house for her brother, Eric Sommerlad, aged 26, a farmer, four miles from .Tenterfield, where the family is well known and respected. Miss Sommerlad was apparently attacked with an axe while she was in bed; her head was frightfully battered. Her brother, who was similarly assailed, was found unconscious; there is little hope of his recovery. The tragedy was discovered on Saturday by a sister who was visiting the house. Miss Sommerlad was a niece of Mr E. C. Sommerlad, a member of Parliament and manager of the Country Press Association of New South Wales.
