TAURAMAI BACK IN WORK

Cone Peak’s Chance At Winton ORTYX WILL BE HACK PROSPECT Winton handicaps are due on Monday. Gloucester Cup The Duke of Gloucester Cup race for 1939 has been allotted to the Taranaki Hunt Club. Spanish Lad Spanish Lad has had to be eased in his work and is unlikely to be raced at Wingatui. From Tea Party F. W. Ellis has an addition to his team in a two-year-old filly by Nigger Minstrel from the Tea Tray mare, Tea Party. She boasts plenty of size. A Lesson The suspension of a rider for two months and a fine, of £5 for starting from his wrong barrier draw, a practice frequently seen at southern meetings, will be worth taking note of by some riders. Schooling at Winton La Boca and Corban were schooled over eight fences, including a road double, two post and rails and four gorse fences, at Winton during, the week. Both gave satisfactory, showings, La Boca especially showing to advantage. Related to Araboa

Aravane, who is engaged at Tapanui today, is a member of A. E. Didhams team. She is a four-year-old mare by Weathervane from Lady Winton, the dam of Araboa. Tauramai Resumes

Tauramai has been taken up again at Riverton and is under the care ot G. McLean, who has been successful with several horses apparently past their best. Several attempts have been made to get Tauramai to stand up to work, but on each occasion he has not gone far. The facilities available at Riverton will all be in favour of an unsound horse.

Progress of Ortyx Since resuming after a spell Ortyx has trained on at Riverton and she has been nominated to race at the Winton and Gore meetings. The Lord Warden filly has furnished a good deal since raced last season and she has only to stand up to work to play a big part in hack fields at coming meetings. There is no doubting her speed. Cone Peak’s Chance

Cone Peak, who has been in the money several times without securing a win, appears to have her opportunity at Winton. In the novice events there she can meet on even terms many opponents to which she would have to give a fair amount of weight in a handicap. Winton is about the only club in Southland which runs its maiden races at a set weight; on all other courses trial handicaps are the rule. - ..
