THE CHILDREN’S ROYAL ACADEMY
Young people in all parts of the world are looking forward with special interest to this year’s exhibition of their drawings and paintings, popularly known as the “Children’s Royal Academy.” Held in the Guildhall Art Gallery, which has been lent by the. Corporation of the City of London, , this will be ,the fiftieth annual exhibition which the Royal Drawing Society has organized. To celebrate the event a considerable increase has been made in the screen space, and the exhibition is to last a fortnight instead of eight days.
Unlike the Royal Academy, drawings and paintings from overseas are welcomed and there are no rejections. Every drawing sent in is classed according to merit and the most successful are awarded gold,
silver and bronze stars designed by H.R.H.' The Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll. The judges include Royal Academicians and other distinguished artists.
Already works are beginning to arrive at the society’s headquarters in South Kensington, but the last comers from remote parts of the Empire will not arrive until the end
of February. When the exhibition opens on April 21, thousands of drawings and paintings will be on view. Thousands of people come to see the work and great interest is always shown in the contributions from Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Ceylon, China, Jamaica,
Barbados, Bermuda and other parts of the Empire. Another very popular feature consists of albums _of drawings and paintings depicting characteristic scenes and incidents by pupils in overseas schools taking the society’s examination. A Little Southlander, Cousin Molly Macalister, has been a _ successful contributor to this exhibition, and her‘.drawings and paintings earned her the. bronze star in 1933 and 1936, the silver star in 1934 and 1937, and the gold st?r in 1935.
