ESTIMATING A CROP
Before the crop is harvested estimates of yield are often made by digging up a few roots. A quick method used by one or two growers in the Rangiora district has been found to check up fairly closely with actual yield. , Four roots are dug close together and the total weight in pounds equals yield in tons an acre. Three or four weighings in different parts of the paddock make sufficient allowance for ground variation.—Journal of Agriculture.
