High Production Of Butterfat ;■ —— LEADING PRODUCER IN DOMINION A Completing her test on November 30, the 12-year-old Jersey cow, Cyrilla’s Twylish Girl, has put up the remarkable record of 19,9431 b of milk and 10241 b of fat in 365 days, figures which place her in the forefront of the Dominion’s producers. For 305 days she gave 17,6461 b of milk and 9061 b of fat, and, calving again on December 4, she easily qualified for the 305 days’ test. Cyrilla’s Twylish Girl is a member of Mr E. J. Clough’s noted Pinecrest Jersey Stud at Inglewood. She was calved on September 15, 1926. At the age of seven years she was the highest producer of all breeds in New Zealand, with 970.981 b fat; she was milked twice daily for both her records, which have the astounding average of over 9971 b fat. Her sire Golden Twylish, has assumed an enviable position as a sire of outstanding dairy stock, three of his tested daughters haying the splendid average of 8611 b fat. The Twylish family has been a conspicuously successful one in building up many studs in this country. The dam of Cyrilla’s Twylish Girl is Cynlla, a daughter of Pride and Beauty s Karaka.
Two British Friesian heifers have now beaten the standing record for a first-calver of 2356 gallons in 365 days. The record-breakers are: Vermuyden Buttercup, bom in March, 1935, owned by Mr W. S. Furness, of Ecclesall, Sheffield. She had her first calf on August 24, 1937, ana has since given 2560 gallons in 365 days. At 5 that stage she was stilt yielding five gallons daily. . Barwyke Butterfly, born in, March, 1935; was bred and .is still owned by Messrs W. Curtis and Son, of Rainham, Essex. After a distinguished show career Barwyke Butterfly had her first calf on October 2, 1937. Since then she won first at the Royal Show of 1938, and has produced 2445 gallons in, 365 days, when she was still producing 4/ gallons daily.
AYRSHIRE WORLD RECORD An Ayrshire cow, Craigraploch Clara, has recently created a world’s record for milk production in 24 hours. This cow, bred by Mr George Dunlop, Castle Douglas, was bom on January 3, 1932, and the record yield was made while in the herd of the Wallingford Farm Training Colony, Turners Court, Benson, Oxfordshire. The cow calved on August 17, 1938, and during the week ending August 28, she had produced 7021 b milk/ The following week her total was 8291 b milk. During the 24 hours August 25-26 she gave 1311 b on two milkings daily. On August 29-30 her yield was 1201 b, while in the 24 hours September 5-6 her yield was 1431 b. This was on three milkings. She was sold on September 8 to Mr J R. P. Hedley, who entered her for the National Dairy Show at Olympia, where she was on reserve on inspection. Her milk yield at the show m the 24 hours on two milkings was 62Jlb.
Craigraploch Clara was sired by Chapelhill Royal Prince. On the date on which Craigraploch Clara gave her record yield she was milked at 3 p.m. on the afternoon or Monday, September 5, when she gave 461 b. She was milked again at 8 p.m. on that night, when her yield was 301 b, and at 6 a.m. on the morning of September 6 her yield was 671 b, thus making the total in the 24 hours of 1431 b. The previous 24 hours she had given 601 b, 17Jlb and 49Mb, making 1271 b.
