ROYAL CHIEF’S GOOD
MILE
BRILLIANT WORK DONE BY DENSITY
(United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, February 2. Most of the fast work at Riccarton this morning was done on the plough, which was in good order, only a few trainers patronizing the outside of the course. There were some smart gallops. Royal Chief and Sovereign Lady did a good mile and Density went well over seven furlongs while there were some smart sprints. Trench Fight, after running the first three furlongs in 37 2-ssec, completed six in lmin 16 4-ssec, going at a sound pace two more furlongs. Royal Chief and Sovereign Lady were on terms at the end of a mile in lmin 41 3-ssec, the last half in 50 2-ssec. This was a very good gallop and both finished strongly. Wild Chase was not hurried over six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec. Great Flight beat Great Swoop over three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Moorsotis ran five furlongs in lmin 2 3-ssec. Prudent Prince joined in over the last three and was going better than his mate. ' „ There was nothing between Wild Talk and Paper Slipper at the end of five furlongs in lmin 2sec, a smart effort, but Kilrobe registered lmin 1 l-ssec, the best of the morning.
Palmyra beat Terriby Hay over a mile in 50sec. Golden Chest gave Studley Royal a start and was with him at the end of six furlongs in lmin 15 3-ssec, after registering 37 4-ssec for the first three. West Wind ran five furlongs in lmin 5 2-ssec and Rex Maitland took lmin 8 3-ssec, while Dranoel beat Full Back in lmin 7sec. DENSITY’S TRIAL Density cleared out from Jewish Lad at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 28 4-ssec. She showed great speed to do the first half-mile in 48 4-ssec —a smart performance. . Phalanx was over a length in front of Fidelis at the end of five furlongs in lmin 4sec. Settlement beat Bouillon over a mile in lmin 52sec. . Passenger sprinted half a mile in Argentic, Haughty Winner and Rabble were in that order at the end of seven furlongs, the last six in lmin 16 2-ssec, Improvident and Garonne taking lmin 18sec for a similar distance. Master Hotspur beat Spartan over a half-mile on the tan by a length in 49 3-ssec.
Nightdress ran a mile and a-quarter in 2min 12 3-ssec. Lofty joined in at the six-furlong post and was going much better at the finish, the last half-mile taking 54 l-ssec. Royal Huntress was in front of Club Chat, with Avernal beaten off after six furlongs in lmin 17 3-ssec, the last four in 50sec. Elegy took lmin 35sec for seven furlongs. . Guy Night and Night Shift ran five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec. Rebellion was going well alongside Lady Middleham at the end of a smart six-furlongs sprint in lmin 16 l-ssec, Real Lady was three lengths away, while Maroha took lmin 17 l-ssec by himself, Dividend following in lmin 21 4-ssec.
Rebel Rank led Gay Hussar over three furlongs up the back in 37 2-ssec. Elmarch and Rebel Queen took lmin 18 3-ssec for six furlongs, Glenogle and Comus doing five in lmin 3 2-ssec, while Rebel Chief did half a mile in 52sec. « Cape Gabo went about nine furlongs, the. six in lmin 19sec and was not hurried. Wine Card ran a mile in lmin 46sec after the first half in 51 l-ssec. Plumage and Grampian ran half a mile in 51sec.
Aggravate beat Black Fox over six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec. Scold was in front of Rebel Lass over half a mile in 50 3-ssec.
Dress Parade was going easily to record 52 3-ssec. Dinah Dhu went well to do half a mile in 49 4-ssec. Princess Margaret and Waka ran five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec, the last halfmile in 50sec, and each sprinted down the straight. Recollection went very well in a school over two hurdles.
